Czech thrower Jan Zelezny still has men’s highest javelin throw record in the Olympics history. His javelin covered a distance of 98.48m in 1996 Olympic games. Zelezny won a total of 4 Olympic medals in his career including 3 gold and 1 silver medal.
Zelezny crossed the 90m mark in his career many times, which the modern throwers find a bit difficult to achieve. He won gold medial in 1992, 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympic Games and also won a silver in 1988. He failed to win in 2004 , where he was performing at the age of 38 and finished 9th overall. Zelezny retired in 2006.

Women’s Highest Javelin Throw in Olympic history – 72.28m
It’s a shocking fact that highest javelin throw record in women’s category is also owned by a Czech athlete. Jan Zelezny compatriot Barbora Spotakova recorded a 72.28m throw in the 2008 World Athletics final. Just weeks before that Barbora also won the gold medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics, where she recorded a throw of 71.42m. But in world athletics final she broke the record of Cuba’s Osleidys Menendez, who had previously recorded a throw of 71.70m in 2005.
